Is summer over already?-A raggedy rewind

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

What’s up Bald heads?

Is it just me or did it seem like summer zipped by? I blinked and it was time for me to trade my yoga pants for skirts again. Yup some of us are back to school while others of us are slowly going back- and into the buildings at that.

If you are new here WELCOME, I'm Jin, in this blog my focus is always on self-care as it pertains to your whole being. That's mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I share things that have worked for me, things that I've heard worked for others and things I've learned or studied as a way to help those who may want or need it.

In the event that you have been minding our own business and you actually missed me in your inbox-

I want to hit you with a little raggedy summer rewind-

May- June: WE OUTSIDE

As soon as it started getting warm everybody and their great granddaddy started screaming “WE OUTSIDE.”

Pause* -It was me, I was the one screaming “We Outside”. You see I’m from Ohio and I experience seasonal depression so as soon as the sun was out to stay for a while I was at ALLLLLLL the parks. Doing all the yoga by myself at said parks, taking all the walks, sitting on the entire back porch, skating all over every tennis court I could find. You know minding my bald-headed business naturally. Not bothering a soul. Then one day I got a calendar reminder about the Ribbon of Hope Gala that I had been looking forward to. This was going to be the very first time in forever that I was going to get to AYYYYYYYYYEEEEEE.

The Ribbon Of Hope Gala was a celebration of life for my Raggedy Friend Tiffany.

* Please note- you are never allowed to call Tiffany raggedy, only I can because we cool like that. If you do it it’s not okay and there will be an issue.*

Tiffany is a breast cancer survivor and she started a foundation called Ribbon of Hope. Their mission is to help survivors focus on the fight. I met Tiffany on the Bricks of Ohio University where we shared some really good times. Shortly after graduation Tiff-O as we affectionately call her was diagnosed with breast cancer. While all her friends were out getting married, having babies, and traveling the world Tiff was fighting for her life. “It wasn’t easy and I felt so alone. Mentally I knew I needed to stay strong and that I needed to focus on the fight” said Tiffany. "I started Ribbon of Hope to help other fighters focus on the fight. We go get groceries, do check-in visits, and just act as a support system for those people who are doing their best to stay strong." Tiffany kicked cancer's ass and has been cancer-free for 10 years. This June we celebrated life with her.

Y’all I had so much fun I even ordered a dress from the single ladies store- Fashion Nova. I was showing all the thigh meat Chile.

THIGH (clap) MEAT (clap) OKAY?!

We had a Blast!!!! To see her smiling and enjoying being around the people that love and care about her was just fantastic. If you want to hear and see more about the ROH event you will have to wait until the vlog.

Yup, you read that right. We have a vlog now. Y’all asked for it so you got it.

Stay tuned. The episode is scheduled to drop at some time.

*I'm on some DONDA mess at t his point*

Anyway, let's get back to it.

July-Current

In July I took my annual visit to Cleveland Ohio to visit with family and while I was there I had to pull up on my friend Kash. Kash makes vegan cookies and the last time I was there she was sold out.

Me:

The bald-headed audacity- This time I let her know I was coming to town so I could get my hands on these vegan cookies and

Truth- I 100% did not want to share these cookies at ALL but because I actually love my sister and brother-in-law I gave them one whole cookie apiece. APIECE- That’s a whole 2 cookies I gave away and I only ordered a half dozen.

I played myself on that but I know better now. If you are in the Cleveland area you need to hit up Kash for the cookies and tell her I sent you.

Follow @kashmerecookies on Instagram and while you're at it catch a flow with her at Abide Yoga on Sunday's 13001 Larchmere Blvd, Shaker Heights, OH 44120.

*Fun Fact- My very first yoga studio experience was lead by Kash- A woman of color. This was a huge deal for me because these spaces are usually predominately white spaces and during my training, I kept hearing my classmates of color speak about how uncomfortable they felt during their previous in-studio experiences and it made me not want to practice in a studio. I'm glad I tried it for myself because I am now a woman of color who teaches in a studio. Representation is important. Keep showing up in these spaces you belong there too.*

At the end of July, I attended the pinky promise conference in Atlanta Ga, hosted by Heather Lindsey. Shout out to my friend Aleyse for inviting me. We had a blast. If you want to hear more about that here is the link to the podcast.
